NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion baseball and head coach Chris Finwood announced the team's 2027 schedule on Thursday.
The 2027 season will mark the debut of the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex, Old Dominion’s new on-campus home for baseball. The Monarchs will play 32 games in Norfolk, giving fans a full slate of home dates to experience the new ballpark for the first time. The 2027 campaign features games against 12 opponents that finished in the Top 100 in RPI last season, including seven that were in the Top 50, as well as six teams that played in the NCAA Regionals.
“We're excited to open our new stadium, the Ellmer Family Baseball Complex, with this schedule,” said Finwood.
“We have some fantastic programs coming to Norfolk including Virginia, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Pittsburgh and Louisiana Tech,” continued Finwood. “We're also playing a challenging road schedule with games at Virginia, Virginia Tech, East Carolina, Mercer, Louisiana, and James Madison. When you add in our always challenging in-state weekday rivals VCU, Richmond, and William & Mary, we feel that we have a schedule that will be both good for RPI and for our fans to finally get to watch us play a real home game for the first time in three years. Our staff, and players are all looking forward to it and we hope our fans will come support the team and enjoy the new ballpark atmosphere.”
In non-conference action, ODU will host weekend series against Bucknell (Feb. 19-21), Saint Joseph’s (Pa.) (March 5-7), and Pittsburgh (March 12-14) and will travel to Mercer (Feb. 26-28). The Monarchs will host midweek games against Norfolk State (Feb. 23), William & Mary (Feb. 24 and May 18), and Princeton (March 9) and they will play a road game at Virginia Tech (May 11). ODU will also have home-and-home series against Virginia, Richmond, East Carolina, and VCU.
The Silver and Blue will open Sun Belt play on the road at Georgia Southern on March 19-21. Old Dominion will play conference series at Arkansas State (April 2-4), James Madison (April 16-18), Louisiana (April 30-May 2), and App State (May 13-15).
This season will also rekindle ODU’s rivalry with Louisiana Tech, which rejoined the Sun Belt on July 15. The Monarchs and Bulldogs were previously members of Conference USA and LA Tech had been in the SBC from 1991-2001. The two teams are knotted at 12-12 in the all-time series and last met at the 2022 CUSA Championship in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. After falling to the Bulldogs, 7-2 on May 26 that season, the Monarchs won a 13-inning game, 9-6 on May 28. LA Tech then edged ODU in a semifinal game, 8-7 later that day to eliminate ODU from the tournament.
ODU will host LA Tech for its first home Sun Belt series of the season on March 25-27. The Monarchs will also be in Norfolk for SBC series against Marshall (April 9-11), Georgia State (April 23-25), Coastal Carolina (May 7-9), and South Alabama (May 20-22).
The 2027 Sun Belt Conference Championship will be held on May 25-30 at DABOS Park, formerly Riverwalk Stadium, in Montgomery, Alabama.
Voucher books and season ticket voucher books for the 2027 season will go on sale in mid-November. Single game tickets will go live in January. Details on pricing and ticket packages will be announced in the coming weeks.
