PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Old Dominion men’s golf wrapped up play at the 2026 Golfweek Fall Challenge, finishing in a four-way tie for fifth place with a combined four-over par 868 at True Blue Golf Club.
“Not our best this week, too many mistakes that took away any chance for us to be in contention. But the guys are working hard and getting better, consistently raising the floor of this team,” ODU head coach Austin Phillips said of his first tournament leading the program.
Third year Joe MacPherson led the Monarchs throughout the three-day tournament. The Aberlady, Scotland native had a strong opening round with a new career best of five-under par 67 on Sunday. MacPherson made six birdies, three on the front nine and another three on the back nine, and eagled the par-5 10th hole. He took a hit in the individual standings with a second round of 78 on Monday, but muscled his way into a tie for 17th with a final round of 69 on Tuesday to end up at two-under 214.
“I’m proud of Joe, and he provided much needed low rounds that we had to have,” continued Phillips. “This is just the start of a long season, and we will keep trying to raise our level.”
Newcomer Roman Roth, a third year who transferred in from Indian Hills Community College, shot an even 216 to tie for 23rd in his first appearance as a Monarch. Second year Quin Covington posted a three-over 219 to tie for 38th, and third year Jakub Sutor turned in a seven-over 223 to tie for 54th. Third year James Page and second year Heath Stout, who was playing as an individual, both tied for 68th with a pair of 11-over 227s.
Georgia Southern went 26-under par with a 54-hole total of 838 to finish atop the team standings. Troy was the runner up with a 17-under 847, and Georgia State rounded out the top three with a nine-under 855. UT-Martin’s Drew Williams was the individual medalist at 10-under 206, edging GSU’s Griffin Latimer by one stroke. GS golfers Morgan Blythe, Trace Carter, and Harrison Sewell all tied for third at eight-under 208.
The Silver and Blue will have a couple of weeks to prepare for their next event, the Florida Atlantic Invitational on Sept. 21-22 at The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida.
