NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion men’s soccer takes on Bucknell on Sunday, September 1 at 1 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex. A win in Sunday’s matchup would bring the Monarchs to 5-0 for the first time since 2012.
Sunday’s match against Bucknell will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
LAST MEETING:
The Monarchs faced the Bison last season on Sunday, September 7 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania but fell, 4-2. ODU got on the scoresheet in the second minute from Lewis Rourke thanks to a pair of assists given to Jake Lane and Marcelo Randolf. The Bison would respond with four-straight goals that capped off an 81st minute goal from Winston Oziri. Rourke notched a brace with 52 seconds remaining in the game to cut the Monarchs’ deficit to two goals by the final whistle.
ABOUT ODU:
Old Dominion is 4-0 for the first time since 2012 when the Monarchs raced out to a 6-0 start. ODU defeated Radford, 7-1 on Wednesday evening in Norfolk, Virginia. ODU is one of only 16 other men’s soccer programs across Division I to have a 100% winning percentage.
Old Dominion this season has a +12 goal differential to rank tied for fourth in Division I. The Monarchs are also in a three-way tie at the top of the national leaderboard for the most goals scored (17). ODU ranks sixth in the country in points per game (12) and tied for second in scoring offense (4.25 goals per game). The Silver and Blue rank fifth in total points (48), sixth in total assists (14), and tied for fifth in shots on goal per game despite ranking tied for 46th in total shots per game (15.25).
Fourth year forward Jason Purks has scored two game-winning goals and sits in a 21-man tie for first place in the nation in the category. The native of Oakwood, Ohio has scored four goals in four contests to rank tied for fifth in total goals. He is also tied for seventh in Division I with an average of one goal per game. Purks has taken two penalty kicks and converted both for a 100% success rate to rank tied for first in Division I.
Fourth year forward Lewis Rourke and fourth year defender Ludovico Vicini both have provided three assists this season and are tied for 12th in the nation. Rourke has scored three goals in four games to rank tied for 20th in Division I in total goals.
Second year goalkeeper Alexander Aguilar has provided two assists to rank tied 52nd in the nation. The Manassas, Virginia native has logged 360 minutes in net to rank tied for seventh in the nation. Aguilar has recorded one clean sheet this season to rank 34th in Division I.
Purks and Rourke have both contributed nine points each this season and are in a five-way tie for ninth in the nation and rank first in the Sun Belt. Fifth year defender David Chapman ranks third on the Monarchs in total goals (2) and is tied for 66th in the nation.
ABOUT BUCKNELL:
The Bison are looking for their first win of the 2026 season. Bucknell fell 2-1 to #20 Hofstra on Thursday, August 20 before losing at Pittsburgh, 3-1, and most recently faced Fordham but fell, 2-0. Bucknell ranked fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Coaches Poll.
Chayse Snyder and Cade Whitmire both lead the Bison with one goal and two points through three games played. Colin Findlay, Noah Handzel, and Viktor Permyashkin all have provided one assist each.
Third year forward Drew Roskos and fourth year defender Jack Lucas each were selected to the Preseason All-League Team. Roskos also claimed the coveted Preseason Forward of the Year and Lucas earned Preseason Defender of the Year honors.
Thomas Yerbury has made three starts in goal for Bucknell, recorded 10 saves, and holds a 59% save percentage.
