NORFOLK, Va. - #15 Old Dominion men’s soccer heads down to Statesboro for a meeting with Georgia Southern on Sunday, September 27 at 7 p.m.
Sunday’s contest at GS will be streamed on ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
LAST MEETING:
The Monarchs fell to Georgia Southern, 2-1 last season on Friday, September 19 at the ODU Soccer Stadium. Ryan Holmes scored a brace for the visitors and the Monarchs played 67 minutes of the game down to 10 men after Marcelo Randolf was shown a red card in the 23rd minute. Former Monarch Alex Kryazhev scored a goal in the 86th minute to create some tension in the waning minutes but ODU couldn’t score another goal to equalize.
ABOUT ODU:
ODU defeated William & Mary, 2-1 in its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday night at the ODU Soccer Complex. ODU head coach Tennant McVea is in his third season at the helm of the Monarchs and earned his 20th win of his coaching career against the Tribe. ODU has had 13 different goalscorers, has outscored its opponents, 30-10, and has scored 5+ goals on three occasions.
The Monarchs' scoring offense (3.33) ranks second best in Division I. ODU has tallied 30 goals, 83 total points, and averages 9.2 points per game to rank third best in the nation. Old Dominion has a +20-goal difference to sit tied for third best in the country. ODU has an average of 8.22 shots on goal per game and have provided 23 assists to rank sixth and ninth in D-I, respectively.
Lewis Rourke leads the Monarchs in points (15), goals (6), and is tied for first in assists (3). The Nottingham, England native is tied for seventh in the country in total points (15), tied for 12th in goals (6), and tied for 38th in shots on goal per game (1.5). Rourke’s six goals are tied for first in the Sun Belt and he was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on September 8, 2026.
Jason Purks ranks second on the Monarchs in points (11) and goals scored (4). The Oakwood, Ohio native’s 11 points are good for 42nd in the nation and his four goals is tied for fourth in the SBC.
Both Purks and Alessandro Maldonado have taken two penalty kicks and converted both for a 100% success rate to rank tied for first in Division I. Maldonado scored two spot kick attempts to tie and win the game against William & Mary on Tuesday.
Fifth year transfer David Chapman has gotten off to a strong start as a leader in the back line. The 6-4 defender is an aerial threat on set pieces and has scored three goals. He has also chipped in two assists to tally eight total points to rank third on the Monarchs.
Defender Ludovico Vicini has provided three assists and scored two goals for seven points to rank fourth best for the Silver and Blue.
Second year goalkeeper Alexander Aguilar has provided two assists and has logged 810 minutes in net to rank tied for second in the nation. Aguilar has recorded two clean sheets this season to rank tied for fifth in the SBC.
ABOUT GS:
Georgia Southern has an overall record of 4-1-2 through seven games and is 0-1 in SBC action. At Bo Pitts Field GS has an undefeated 2-0-1 record and are 3-0-2 in its last five games. Georgia Southern drew Coastal Carolina, 1-1 in Conway, South Carolina in the Eagles’ conference opening matchup.
GS has a +4-goal differential and have only conceded six goals this season. The Eagles average 1.4 goals per game and concede an average of 0.87 a game. Georgia Southern averages 9.6 shots per game and a 46.3% shot on goal percentage. GS has had four different goal scorers this season.
Broden Beorlegui is the Eagles’ leading scorer and point leader, he has 13 points through seven games from six goals and one assist. He and Rourke are both tied for first in the conference in goals scored. Mitch Picksley and Lior Holtz both rank second and third with five and four points, respectively.
