NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion sailing heads to St. Mary’s, Maryland for the SMC Open hosted by St. Mary’s (Md.) on Saturday, September 26-27. The event lasts all day and report time is 10:30 a.m. on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
Last time out the Monarchs placed fourth at the Chesapeake Invitational, sixth at the Chesapeake Open, and had three boats place inside the top-10 of the Faye Bennet MAISA Women's Singles.
The SMC Open will be a combined division with four boats per team. Fordham, George Washington, Georgetown, Navy, Old Dominion, Penn., and St. Mary’s will each use four boats to fill out the 18 available berths. The boats in use over this weekend will be smaller two-person dinghies. This is the first time the Monarchs have returned to the SMC Open since 2008.

ODU sailing is on the road for three competitions next weekend. ODU women’s sailing heads to Hanover, New Hampshire for the Women’s ACC Round One and the open sailing team will be in Charleston, South Carolina for the Charleston Fall Regatta. The open sailing team will also head to Annapolis, Maryland for the annual Van Duyne Trophy.
