NORFOLK, Va. - #13 Old Dominion men’s soccer looks to get back to winning ways against in-state foe William & Mary on Tuesday, September 22 at 6 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex. It is the Monarchs final non-conference game.
ODU’s contest against the Tribe on Tuesday will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
LAST MEETING:
Two second half goals from Jake Lane and alumni Evan Watt fueled ODU to a 3-1 victory on Sept. 23, 2025 in Williamsburg, Virginia. Old Dominion opened the scoring in the 12th minute from Michael Eberle. The Monarchs held the lead for seven minutes before W&M’s Gabe Ruitenberg equalized the game in the 19th minute. Watt scored the game-winning goal in the 50th minute and Lane finished the game off in the 81st.
ABOUT ODU:
ODU suffered its first setback of the 2026 campaign against #4 South Carolina on Friday, September 18 to fall to 7-1 and 0-1 in the Sun Belt. ODU head coach Tennant McVea is in his third season at the helm of the Monarchs and is aiming to secure his 20th win of his coaching career. ODU has had 12 different goalscorers and has outscored its opponents, 28-9 and has scored 5+ goals on three occasions.
The Monarchs’ 28 goals, 79 total points, and scoring offense (3.5) all rank second best in the nation. Old Dominion averages 9.8 points per game which ranks third best in Division I and has a +19-goal difference to sit fourth best in the country. ODU has an average of 8.86 shots on goal per game and have provided 23 assists to rank fifth and sixth in D-I, respectively.
Lewis Rourke leads the Monarchs in points (15), goals (6), and is tied for first in assists (3). The Nottingham, England native is tied for fourth in the country in total points (15), tied for sixth in goals (6), tied for 38th in shots on goal per game (1.71), and tied for 50th in total assists (3). Rourke’s six goals are tied for first in the Sun Belt and he was named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week on September 8, 2026.
Jason Purks ranks second on the Monarchs in total points (11) and goals scored (4). The Oakwood, Ohio native’s 11 points are good for 26th, his four goals is tied for 33rd, and his three assists are tied with Rourke for 50th in the nation. Purks has taken two penalty kicks and converted both for a 100% success rate to rank tied for first in Division I.
Fifth year transfer David Chapman has gotten off to a strong start as a leader in the back line. The 6-4 defender is an aerial threat on set pieces and has scored three goals. He has also chipped in two assists to tally eight total points to rank third on the Monarchs. He and Micah Wayland are both tied for 10th in the Sun Belt in goals scored. Wayland averages 1.2 points per game which ranks eighth best in the conference.
Defender Ludovico Vicini has provided three assists and scored two goals, his three assists are tied for 50th in the nation. His seven points ranks fourth best for the Silver and Blue and he scored directly from a corner kick in ODU’s 2-1 loss to USC.
Second year goalkeeper Alexander Aguilar has provided two assists and has logged 720 minutes in net to rank tied for second in the nation. Aguilar has recorded two clean sheets this season to rank tied for fifth in the SBC and 47th in Division I.
ABOUT W&M:
The Tribe is 2-1-1 in its last four games and is coming off a 2-1 win at UMBC. W&M has a 3-3-1 overall record and is 1-1-1 in the CAA. They are led by head coach Chris Norris who is in his 36th year in Williamsburg, Virginia.
There are four players that are tied for the team lead in points on the Tribe, Alex Garrison and Brown Huffard have both scored three goals and provided one assist for seven points. Aidan Gatchell and Ruitenberg have provided three assists and scored two goals for seven points.
William & Mary have a +2-goal differential and have scored 16 goals to average 2.3 per game. The Tribe average 12.1 shots per game and have a 43.5% shots on goal percentage. They have taken three penalty kicks and have a 100% success rate from the spot.
Diego Garciarena has made seven starts and logged 629:38 minutes in goal for William & Mary. He has made 31 saves, averages 4.4 per game, and has a 68.9% save percentage.
