NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion sailing heads to Annapolis, Maryland for three competitions hosted by Navy. ODU competes in the Faye Bennet MAISA Women’s Singles, the Chesapeake Invitational, and the Chesapeake Open on September 19-20.
All three events last all day and report time is 10:30 a.m on Saturday and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The women’s sailing team sets off against eight schools in the Faye Bennet MAISA Women’s Singles. This is a national qualifier hosted by the Midshipmen with 18 different berths. The boats in action will be ILCA 6 (single-person racing sailboats). Cornell, Fordham, Georgetown, Hobart and William Smith, Navy, Old Dominion, Quinnipiac, Saint Mary’s (Md.), and Washington College (Md.) will all be in action this weekend.
The open sailing team was invited to compete in the Chesapeake Invitational against five schools. The invitational is an open fleet race with six berths using two-person racing dinghies. Christopher Newport, George Washington, Georgetown, Navy, Old Dominion, and Saint Mary’s (Md.) fill out the six berths.
The open sailing team also takes part in the Chesapeake Open against eight other schools. The nine berths are filled by Fordham, George Washington, Georgetown, Navy, Old Dominion, Penn State, Penn., Princeton, and Saint Mary’s (Md). It will be an open fleet race with six berths using two-person racing dinghies.
