NEW ORLEANS - Old Dominion swimmer Lilly Cleal was named to the All-Sun Belt Community Service Team, the conference announced on Monday.
The All-Sun Belt Community Service Team is an initiative aimed to recognize one student-athlete from each Sun Belt institution who has shown outstanding dedication to community service. Each school was invited to nominate one student-athlete who demonstrates excellence in community service, particularly in the leadership and execution of these efforts.
This recognition was developed in conjunction with the Sun Belt Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to highlight the importance of community service within the Sun Belt Conference's mission, while continuing the celebration of the impactful contributions happening on all 14 Sun Belt campuses.
Cleal contributed over 1,000 service hours at hospitals in the 757 area. She shows a level of commitment that reflects both her passion for nuclear medicine and her deep dedication to serving the Norfolk community.
The now alumna freestyle swimmer maintained a steady presence with Kids Club by writing to youth in the 757 as a pen pal. She is notably supporting a literacy campaign in elementary schools and regularly volunteering as a local race marshal or handing out water at sunrise.
Cleal also earned the HelperHelper Top Division I Female Contributor Award.
