NEW KENT, Va. —To celebrate the 2026 Old Dominion Derby and the conclusion of the 2026 live racing season, Colonial Downs Racetrack has teamed up with Old Dominion University to celebrate ODU and an iconic Virginia race on Old Dominion Derby Day. The special celebration on Monday, Sept. 7 will mark the season’s last day of live racing and celebrate all things Old Dominion (University and Derby) with special appearances by the ODU Band and the university’s dance and cheer squads.

“The chance to partner with Old Dominion University on Old Dominion Derby Day was just too perfect to pass up,” said Bella Hodge, Racing Marketing Manager at Colonial Downs. “Colonial Downs is just a short drive on I-64 from both Hampton Roads and Richmond, so make plans to celebrate everything Old Dominion on Monday, Sept. 7 at Virginia’s premier thoroughbred racetrack!”

Only nine days of live racing remain in the historic 2026 season at Colonial Downs. Live racing will be held this Thursday, August 27 through Sunday, August 31 before Virginia Derby weekend, the final weekend of live racing, from Thursday, Sept. 3 through Old Dominion Derby Day on Monday, Sept. 7.

“It’s wonderful that our Monarch alumni have been specially invited to celebrate Old Dominion Day at Colonial Downs. Having Monarch Cheer, Dance and Marching Band there to make an appearance is even better,” said Krista Harrell, ODU Associate Vice President, Alumni Relations.

Covered, reserved and indoor seating for all race days can be purchased at www.ColonialDowns.com where guests can find additional information on tickets, dining and pricing, as well as any adjustments to post times. General Admission is free every day for the rest of the race season.
