NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion has promoted Courtney Abston to head cheer coach, ODU announced on Friday.
"Cheerleading has been a part of my life since I was four years old, and it has shaped who I am both as an athlete and a person,” said Abston. “Having the opportunity to continue my love for cheerleading at ODU, where I spent four incredible years as a student-athlete is truly a full-circle moment.”
Abston spent the last two years as an assistant coach to Tara Lynn Hilbert, during her seven year tenure. This past season, the Monarchs placed fifth overall in NCA Cheer Nationals in the Intermediate Small Coed Division IA.
“I am honored to lead this program and excited to build on its traditions while helping our athletes grow in skill, character and confidence. I look forward to continuing to foster a culture of excellence, passion, and pride for ODU Cheer,” added Abston.
