NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women’s soccer heads to North Carolina for back-to-back away games. The Monarchs face UNCW at the UNCW Soccer Stadium on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m. The Silver and Blue then make their way to Winston-Salem to take on Top 25-ranked opponent Wake Forest on Sunday, Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. at Spry Stadium.
Thursday’s matchup against UNCW will be streamed to FloSports and Sunday’s contest is on ESPN+. Live stats will be available for both games.
LAST TIME OUT:
ODU last played UNCW on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2024 and the Silver and Blue won, 2-0. The Moanrchs scored one goal in both the first and second half while outshooting the Seahawks 18-3.
Old Dominion fell to an undefeated Wake Forest on Sept. 9, 2016, 3-1. ODU found an early, 1-0 lead at Spry Stadium but went on to concede three straight goals against them. ODU held the lead for a total of two minutes before Maddie Huster netted the equalizer.

ODU split their first week of action, 1-1 after falling to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., 2-1. The Monarchs returned to Norfolk and dispatched Longwood on Sunday evening, 3-0. ODU will face its first Top 25-ranked team under the program’s fourth head coach Will Roberts on Sunday against #18 Wake Forest.
After Old Dominion’s first two games, five players are tied with a team-leading two points. Madison Telmer scored the Monarchs’ first goal of the season in the loss to Virginia Tech. Sydney Somers, Hannah Morgan, and Ally Richardson all got on the scoresheet in ODU’s win over Longwood. Riley Mullen provided an assist in both games and Katie Lutz registered one assist in the season opener.
ODU’s Ellie Goodrich has played 135 minutes through the first two games and made two saves. She collected her first clean sheet of the season last time out and has a 1-1 record in goal. Transfer Emily Earles made her first start for Old Dominion against Virginia Tech.

UNCW opened their season with a 3-0 win over familiar Sun Belt foe App State in Boone, N.C. on Thursday. The Seahawks headed to Cullowhee, N.C. to face Western Carolina on Sunday and won, 2-1. UNCW had two exhibitions to warm up for the regular season against The Citadel and LSU.
Caigan Leonard leads the Seahawks with four points from two goals this season. Hailey Longwell and Ava Vaughn both snagged a goal and an assist through two games played to rank second with three points. Zoe Anderson has made two starts in net for UNCW and allowed one goal while making four saves and recording a 2-0 record.

Wake Forest have opened their season with a 2-0 record after wins over South Carolina (3-0) and LSU (2-0). The Demon Deacons were picked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 as the 18th ranked team in the nation.
Riley Cross and Lola Ressler are tied with a team-leading three points from one goal and one assist. Henley Tippins, Dempsey Brown, and Kylie Maxwell each scored one goal through the Demon Deacons first two games played. Valentina Amaral has started both games in goal and has tallied six saves and two clean sheets. WF have scored four out of their five goals this season in the second half.
