NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion men’s soccer opens the 2026 season with a road trip to the nation’s capital for a matchup against George Washington on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 2 p.m. at the GW Soccer Field.
The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
LAST TIME OUT:
ODU opened the 2025 season with a 2-0 home victory over the Revolutionaries thanks to two late goals from Jake Lane in the 78th and 88th minute. Micah Wayland, Michael Eberle, and Alex Kryazhev each doled out one assist in the winning effort. The Monarchs outshot GW 13-6 and 6-4 in shots on target, ODU also had a +2 differential in corner kicks (5).
ABOUT ODU:
ODU had two preseason exhibitions at Duquesne and against American before the opening game on Thursday evening. The Silver and Blue are led by head coach Tennant McVea in his third season in Norfolk, Va. Fourth year forward Lewis Rourke is the Monarchs’ leading returner and was selected to the Preseason All-Sun Belt team.
Rourke finished 2025 with 23 points from 10 goals and three assists and scored four goals in the Monarchs’ final three games. He scored in the TowneBank Royal Rivalry versus James Madison in a 1-1 draw, against Kentucky in another 1-1 draw, and the Nottingham, England native found the back of the net twice in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Quarterfinals against West Virginia.
Six of the Monarchs’ top seven point leaders return to Norfolk for another season. After Rourke, Jake Lane ranked second with 10 points, Barrett Saul and Michael Eberle both tallied eight points, junior forward Micah Wayland finished with seven and sophomore forward Otu Bisong had six points in his freshman campaign.
ABOUT GW:
The Revolutionaries ended last season with a 2-11-4 record and finished 0-7-1 in the A-10. GW hired Matt Watts as their new head coach and brought in 12 new additions for his first season at the helm. George Washington was picked to finish in 13th in the Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Preseason Poll.
Sophomore forward Joel Russ is the Revolutionaries’ top returning point leader, he finished with seven points from three goals and one assist. In goal, GW returns fourth-year keeper Tom Macauley who made 15 starts and had a save percentage of 72.5% and two shutouts.
