NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women’s soccer opens the 2026 season in Blacksburg, Virginia against Virginia Tech on Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m at Thompson Field. Old Dominion then hosts its home opener on Sunday, August 16 at 6 p.m. at the ODU Soccer Complex.
Both games will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available.
LAST TIME OUT:
Old Dominion conceded the opening goal against the Hokies in the fifth minute before scoring two goals over the next 30 minutes to come away with a 2-1 win over the then #21 team in the nation. Riley Mullen opened the scoring for ODU and Brooke Edwards scored the game-winning goal in the 35th minute.
ODU came away with a 1-0 win over the Lancers back in 2022. Yuliia Khrystiuk scored the lone goal of the game in the 16th minute. Longwood forced the issue in stretches recording three corner kicks including a couple in the last two minutes. Each time, the Monarchs forced an errant attempt by the guests.
ABOUT ODU:
ODU’s fourth head coach in program history, Will Roberts, comes to Norfolk, Virginia, after winning the Sun Belt regular season championship last season at ULM. In his first official game in charge of the Monarchs he will face a Power Four foe in enemy territory and return to Norfolk for the home opening matchup against Longwood.
Old Dominion finished with an 11-3-4 record and won the Sun Belt East Division but ultimately fell to ULM in the Sun Belt Conference Championship Semifinals, 3-2. ODU’s top two point leaders return with another year of experience under their belt. Fourth Year forward Riley Mullen tallied 18 points from eight assists and five goals and Second Year forward Ashley Economopoulos scored five goals and dished out five assists for 15 points.
Ashlynn Kulha and incoming Fourth Year transfer Libby Holmes from ULM both were named to the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team. Kulha also earned back-to-back Preseason Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Year. Both defenders were named to the 2026 Hermann Trophy Defender Watch List.
ABOUT VT:
The Hokies finished last season with a 4-10-4 record and went 0-8-2 in the ACC. They are led by head coach Charles “Chugger” Adair in his 15th season in Blacksburg. Old Dominion defeated Virginia Tech last season, but the Hokies hold a 3-10-1 all-time record against the Monarchs.
Senior forward Anna Weir is the top returning goalscorer on the team after notching six goals in her first campaign. Second Year midfielder Hannah Pachan is VT’s top returning point leader after tallying 15 on five goals and five assists.
ABOUT LWU:
Longwood finished with a record of 9-7-3 last season and went 5-3 in the Big South. They fell in the Big South Championship Semifinals against USC Upstate, 1-1 (6-5) on penalties. At the helm for the Lancers is Todd Dyer in his 32nd season with the program. He is in his 39th career season after also coaching the Longwood men’s soccer team from 1996-2003.
Second Year forward Sam Fischer led the Lancers with 16 points on seven goals and two assists last season. She was recently named Big South Preseason Forward of the Year and to the 2026 Big South Watch List. Meghan Piazza, a Fourth Year midfielder, ranked second on the team with 11 points from five goals and one assist. Fifth Year forward Madison Fitzpatrick rounds out the Lancers’ top three point leaders, she scored three goals and provided one assist for seven points.
