NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball head coach Mike Jones announced the Monarchs’ 2026-27 non-conference schedule on Monday. The upcoming season will see ODU play 14 non-conference games, to include eight at Chartway Arena.
This season’s non-conference slate includes games against teams from the A10, ACC, Big South, CAA, MAC, MEAC, and the Patriot League.
“We are very excited to announce our 2026-2027 non-conference schedule. Being able to get more home games and to continue series with some of our natural rivals is important,” said Jones.
After hosting VCU for an exhibition game on Saturday, October 17, ODU begins the 2026-27 season at home versus Western Michigan on Monday, November 2 in the opening round of the MAC-Sun Belt Challenge. The Monarchs then host NCAA Division III school Regent University on Wednesday, November 4 before the team’s first road game at Bucknell on Saturday, November 7.
Old Dominion resumes its cross-town rivalry versus Norfolk State on Wednesday, November 11 at Joseph G. Echols Memorial Hall. After a home game versus Longwood on Saturday, November 14, the Silver & Blue will head to Charlottesville, Virginia for a Tuesday, November 17 meeting with Virginia, which is coming off an appearance in last season’s NCAA Tournament. ODU returns to Norfolk to host Hampton on Tuesday, November 24 and rounds out the first month of play with a road game at Virginia Tech on Friday, November 27. Next season will see Old Dominion playing road games at Hampton and Longwood.
In December, the Monarchs will host Drexel on Monday, December 1 and Richmond on Saturday, December 5. The following Saturday, December 12, will see Old Dominion traveling to Fairfax, Virginia to play at George Mason for the second year in a row. The Patriots competed in the 2026 NIT Tournament and will come to Norfolk during the 2027-28 season. ODU then concludes 2026 with a pair of home games against The Apprentice School on Tuesday, December 22 and Charleston Southern on Monday, December 28.
“A four-game homestand as we cross into 2027 and not having any lengthy road stretches are amongst the reasons that we really like our schedule,” continued Jones. “Overall, we have 17 home games and 15 road games as we prepare for the Sun Belt Conference tournament.”
The pairings for the second round of this season’s MAC-Sun Belt Challenge will be announced in January with the Monarchs slated to travel to a MAC school on Saturday, February 6. NET rankings, geography, and frequency of past contests will be considered in determining the second-round matchups.
