NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s golf head coach Austin Phillips announced on Wednesday the signing of Roman Roth, an incoming transfer from Indian Hills Community College.

“We are excited to have Roman join ODU and we know he will make a great impact on the program,” said Phillips. “He comes from one of the best junior colleges in the country, where he has produced top results against D1 competition. We can’t wait for him to be an immediate contributor this fall.”

A native of Wayland, Iowa, Roth was a two-sport athlete at Washington High School, where he also lettered in basketball. As a junior in 2023, he became his school’s first-ever state champion after winning the IHSAA 3A Boys State Golf Tournament. He also qualified for the 2023 United States Junior Amateur Championship and won the 2023 Iowa PGA Junior Saddleback tournament. As a senior in 2024, he led his team to a Southeast Conference team title, tied for third place at the IHSAA State Championship, placed second at the IAPGA Spring Junior Open, and won the Iowa PGA Junior Spring Series at Muscatine.

In his two seasons at Indian Hills CC, which finished 2026 ranked fourth in the country in the Scoreboard by Clippd rankings, he recorded eight Top-20 performances. This past spring, he finished tied for third at the Western Illinois Intercollegiate with a two-under par 211 on April 2-3, 2026. The effort helped the Warriors capture the team title with a combined 12-under 840. Roth also placed sixth at the Wright State Invitational on April 12-13 with a one-under par 212, while the Warriors finished second in the team standings with an eight-under 844. Indian Hills captured its 14th district title with a 23-under par 841 and went on to finish second at the 2026 NJCAA DI Men’s National Championship with a 20-over par 1,173, just one stroke back of McLennan CC.

His first season at Indian Hills in 2024-25 saw him earn NJCAA Division I PING All-District honors. He was named the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) Golf Athlete of the Week for September 23-29 and other freshman accolades included 2025 NJCAA All-Academic Third Team, 2025 Spring ICCAC Academic All-Region First Team, 2024 Fall ICCAC Academic All-Region First Team, and NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honors. He led the Warriors at the Zach Johnson Invitational on September 23-24, tying for 27th with a six-over par 219. He was also his team’s top finisher at the Don Bebow Butler Spring Invitational on March 31-April 1, again tying for 27th with a five-over 215. Roth tied for 16th overall at the Wright State Invitational on April 13-14 with a season-best one-under 212 and tied for 10th at the NJCAA Central District Championship on April 28-29, earning All-Tournament honors with an eight-over 224. The Warriors finished in second place to earn an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Championship, where they finished in third place.
