SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. – Old Dominion women’s golfer and Sun Belt Champion Barbara Car sits tied for 36th after carding a one-over 73 in Monday’s opening round at the NCAA’s Louisville Regional.
The three-day postseason tournament is being played at the University of Louisville Golf Course, which features a par of 72 and is 6,384 yards.
A sophomore from Vodice, Slovenia, Car was in the 11th group to tee off from the first hole this morning at 9:50 a.m. Playing alongside South Carolina’s Eila Galitsky and Maylis Lamoure, Car picked up a couple of strokes with a bogey on the par-3 third hole and another bogey on the par-3 eighth hole. She gained a stroke back though, capping off the front nine with a birdie on the par-5 ninth hole.
Sitting at one-over at the turn, she went up two strokes with a third bogey on the par-4 10th hole. Car settled down from there, making par on the next six holes before making birdie on the par-5 17th hole. She then rounded out her first day by making her putt for par on 18.
In the individual standings, there is currently a three-way tie for first place after Ole Miss’ Kajsalotta Svarvar, Kansas State’s Nanami Nakashima, and Middle Tennessee’s Isabella Johnson all posted five-under par 67s. Houston and Ole Miss are atop the team standings at six-under 282.
Following Wednesday’s final round of stroke play, the top five teams and the low individual not on an advancing team will advance to compete in the national championships, which will be held on May 22-27 at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
For Tuesday’s second round, Car will tee off on the 10th hole at 9:50 a.m. and she will be paired with Lamoure and Belmont University’s Sloane Biddle.
