NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion University head women’s basketball coach DeLisha Milton-Jones announced on Thursday that Gee Lawler will be joining her staff as an assistant coach and recruiting director.
“The addition of Ginnesica to my staff is a hire I am very excited about,” said Milton-Jones. “Coach Gee will bring a fresh perspective, bright personality, and well-respected recruiting ties to our Women’s Basketball program. Monarch nation will love getting to know her on and off the court.”
Lawler is joining Old Dominion after spending a season at Tarleton State, where she oversaw the recruiting program and working with post players. She was a former student-athlete and coach at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and was a part of a coaching staff that won two Southland Conference Championships.
“I’m delighted to be the newest addition on staff here at ODU,” said Lawler. “It is an honor to serve alongside one of the best to play and coach the amazing game of basketball! Coach Dee is a gem, innovative leader, and a proven winner! I'm looking forward to pouring into our student-athletes and being a part of a legendary staff! Old Dominion is such a special place to be, and I am elated to continue the growth of this program’s rich tradition!”
The Texans finished with a record of 14-17 (7-11 WAC) and Lawler worked with 6’6 freshman center Elodie Lutbert who blossomed into the team’s leading rebounder (7.8 rpg) and third leading scorer (10.4 ppg). Before joining A&M Corpus-Christi Lawler was an English teacher at Seguin High School and worked as both the basketball and softball coach. A native of Michigan, she earned the Rookie of the Year honor as a coach while stewarding her entire roster to garnering Academic All-District honors.
