POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Old Dominion sits tied for fifth place following Monday’s opening round at the Sun Belt Conference Women’s Golf Championship. The tournament is being held at the Lakewood Golf Club’s Dogwood course.
The Monarchs are even in the team standings with South Alabama, who also posted a combined 15-over par 303 for the first day of competition. App State leads the 13-team field with a three-under 285, ULM is currently second with an even score of 288, and Texas State is third with a nine-over 297.
Barbara Car handed in the top score for ODU, a one-over par 73 that has her tied for 11th in the individual standings. She started off with a one-under 35 on the back nine thanks to a birdie on the par-5 12th hole, then added a two-over 38 on the front nine.
Mariana Arronte and Puneet Bajwa carded a pair of two-over 74s to tie for 14th place. Alina Shchepteva turned in a 10-over 82 to tie for 55th, and Ludovica Girola is one stroke back of Shchepteva and tied for 59th at 11-over 83.
Troy’s Manya Saini and ULM’s Daniela Campillo Martinez lead the 75-person field after both golfers shot 4-under 68s.
For round two, ODU will be playing alongside Coastal Carolina and South Alabama and will tee off from the 10th hole between 10-10:36 a.m. ET. Only the top four teams from stroke play will advance to match play this Thursday.
