NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion University is tapping into its history by bringing back retro, sport-specific logos from the 1970–1986 era. The rollout starts with five sports, featuring designs last seen during the 1985–86 season.
These vintage logos highlight Big Blue in action—like swinging a bat for baseball—with similar sport-themed designs planned for other teams. The older look includes details like the classic Hudson Blue color and a sharper, more pointed crown on Big Blue. The five sports in the initial launch include baseball, football, golf, lacrosse and rowing.
Fans will be able to purchase merchandise featuring these retro designs, including this year’s ODU football tee which features the vintage football logo, at the Priority Charity Bowl Spring Game at S.B. Ballard Stadium. Renewed football season ticket holders will receive 20 percent off of the t-shirt.
The retro logos won’t replace current branding—they’ll serve as secondary marks alongside the modern ODU crown logo. More sport-specific designs and merch are expected to roll out throughout 2026 with new creative initiatives and merchandise featuring the logos.
