DAYTONA, Fla. - The Old Dominion Cheerleading team traveled to Daytona Florida this past weekend to compete in the NCA College Nationals Competition. The Monarchs placed fifth overall in the Intermediate Small Coed Division IA on Saturday night.
With a score of 81.966 on day one, ODU placed third out of 10 teams marking the first time the Monarchs have placed within top three in head coach Tara Lynn Hilbert’s seven year tenure at Old Dominion.1.25 deductions were given due to a major building fall.
“This weekend our athletes put in so much work to reach their goal. Top 3 was always the goal—and after Day 1, we proved we belonged there,” said Hilbert.
Day two, the team went seventh in the order and put on a 88.9977 performance to place fifth overall with 1.50 in deductions for two building falls.
“What makes me most proud is the fight. Two strong performances against very talented teams,” added Hilbert. “Our team showed up, left it all on the mat, and represented Old Dominion University in a great way”.
