NORFOLK, Va. – #70 Old Dominion men’s tennis defeated #42 Penn, 4-0, at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center on Sunday afternoon.
Yanis Moundir and Felix Obermair opened doubles play for ODU with a 6-3 win over No. 77 Shaurya Bharadwaj and Vojtech Vales on court three. However, Penn’s No. 7 Manfredi Graziani and Aaron Sandler downed Thomas Nelson and Adam Majchrzak 6-4 on court one to leave the point-deciding match to court two. In favor of the Monarchs, Zech Hamrouni and Piet Steveker bested Adam Bain and Nischal Spurling 6-3, putting Old Dominion on the board.
No. 5 Steveker continued his winning streak with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Vales to open singles play. Obermair followed suit, downing Luka Butera 6-3, 6-4 on court three to put ODU one point from sweeping the Quakers, which allowed for No. 6 Aryan Saleh to seal the win following a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Matthew Rutter.
No. 1 Adam Majchrzak’s, No. 2 Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan’s, and No. 4 Hamrouni’s matches against respective opponents No. 60 Graziani (2-6, 6-3), Bharadwaj (6-2, 2-6), and Justin Chung (3-6, 5-6) were suspended.
Old Dominion travels south next weekend to challenge Georgia Southern on Saturday, March 28 at 12 p.m. in the Wallis Tennis Center.
