NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion sailing has two major events this weekend, starting with the Aaron Szambecki Team Race on Saturday. The women’s sailing team competes in the Blair Herron Women’s Team Race on Saturday and ODU wraps up the weekend with the Hanbury Trophy on Sunday, March 22.
The Monarchs open the Aaron Szambecki Team Race against George Washington before facing Eckerd College in Flight 2. The Monarchs return for Flight 4 against Stanford and then meet Dartmouth in Flight 5. Flights 6-8 will see the Silver and Blue line up against Georgetown, Fordham, and Tulane, respectively. The Monarchs round out the competition against Rhode Island and Navy.
ODU women’s sailing competes against Georgetown in Flight 1 in the Blair Herron Women’s Team Race before taking on Tulane in Flight 3. Flights 4-7 see the Monarchs take on Cornell, Hobart and William Smith, Dartmouth, and St. Mary’s (Md.), respectively. The Monarchs round out the first round against Navy in Flight 9. Round two will feature the same matchups as round one with ODU starting against Georgetown.
ODU wraps up the weekend with the Hanbury Trophy, where the Monarchs will take on Christopher Newport, two Princeton boats, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and William & Mary in two separate divisions. In this event, odd-numbered teams will rotate into the next boat while even-numbered teams will rotate into the previous boat every two races.
