BOCA RATON, Fla. – #75 Old Dominion men’s tennis downed Florida Atlantic in a come-from-behind 4-2 victory on Tuesday afternoon at FAU.
FAU’s No. 1 Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera opened doubles play with a 6-2 victory over Thomas Nelson and Adam Majchrzak, however, No. 2 Zech Hamrouni and Piet Steveker responded for ODU after besting Segundo Goity Zapico and Simon Myslivec, 6-3. For the doubles point, Vanja Hodzic and Lucca Pignaton beat Yanis Moundir and Felix Obermair on court three, giving the Owls the doubles point for a 1-0 lead.
FAU started the singles competition by claiming the first match once again after No. 5 Jan Kusy defeated Moundir, 6-3, 6-2. That would be the last point that the Owls scored, as No. 1 Majchrzak and No. 6 Steveker downed respective opponents Havlicek (6-4, 6-1) and Luca Miremont (6-3, 7-6) to tie the match at two. For the win, No. 2 Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan and No. 3 Hamrouni claimed victories at the same time, both of which came in a third set. Olivier de Sardan defeated Goity Zapico 4-6, 7-5, 6-2 while Hamrouni bested Pazdera 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
With ODU’s win, Aryan Saleh’s match on court four against Myslivec was suspended at 6-4, 2-6, 5-5.
Old Dominion continues its road series against Saint Joseph's at Philadelphia on Thursday, March 18 at 2 p.m.
