CHARLOTTE, N.C. – #75 Old Dominion men’s tennis dropped its contest at #58 Charlotte, 4-2, on Friday afternoon.
The Monarchs took an early lead in doubles competition, with Yanis Moundir and Felix Obermair defeating Andres Medus and Moritz Muenster, 6-4, on court three to begin the day. Teammates Thomas Nelson and Adam Majchrzak followed suit with a win over Ivan Dreycopp and Vasco Prata, 6-4, on court one. By claiming the doubles point, No. 2 Zech Hamrouni’s and Piet Steveker’s match against Massimo Pizzigoni and Emilio Sanchez Bronzetti was suspended at 4-3.
Hamrouni grabbed the first point of the singles matches after downing Pizzigoni (6-3, 6-1) on court four. However, Medus put the 49ers on the board with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Obermair on court three. Prata tied the game shortly after, besting No. 1 Majchrzak 6-4, 6-3, which allowed Dreycopp to give Charlotte the lead after winning over Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan (6-2, 6-4) on court two. For the match win, No. 6 Sanchez Bronzetti defeated Moundir (7-5, 6-4) to seal Charlotte’s come-from-behind win.
No. 5 Aryan Saleh’s match against Muenster was suspended at 7-6, 0-2.
Old Dominion continues play on Tuesday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at Florida Atlantic.
