WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – Old Dominion men’s tennis downed in-state rival William & Mary by a 4-1 score on Friday evening.
ODU’s Zech Hamrouni and Piet Steveker opened doubles play with a dominant 6-1 win over Nikita Bortnichek and Dylan Chou on court three, allowing teammates Yanis Moundir and Felix Obermair to clinch the doubles point for the Monarchs with a 6-3 victory over Albert Hansen and Theo Nilsson on court two. No. 1 Thomas Nelson’s and Adam Majchrzak’s match against Oliver Hague and Gur Trakhtenberg was suspended at 5-5.
No. 4 Hamrouni kept momentum rolling for Old Dominion after claiming the first singles win over Austin Cohen (6-3, 6-2), though Bortnichek grabbed the Tribe’s first point of the evening after besting Obermair 6-3, 6-2 on court three. No. 6 Steveker helped get the Monarchs one point away from claiming the match win, defeating Hansen by a 7-6, 6-3 score, and No. 1 Majchrzak earned ODU the win after downing Trakhtenberg 6-4, 3-6, 6-4.
No. 2 Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan’s and No. 5 Aryan Saleh’s matches were suspended against Hague (6-1, 4-6, 6-6) and Chou (4-6, 6-5) respectively.
Old Dominion returns home for a doubleheader against Cornell at 10 a.m. and Morgan State at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 1 at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.
