NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s basketball will close out the regular season in Atlanta on Friday when the Monarchs take on the Georgia State Panthers at 7:30 p.m. inside of the GSU Convocation Center.

The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and Ted Alexander will call the game on ESPN Sports Radio 94.1. Live stats will also be available.

With just one conference game remaining, only one seed for the upcoming Sun Belt Championship has been locked in with ULM at No. 14. The Monarchs are within a game of Georgia Southern, Georgia State and Louisiana. The Ragin’ Cajuns are headed to Jonesboro, Arkansas for an 8:30 p.m. ET meeting with Arkansas State, and the Eagles will be in Huntington, West Virginia to play Marshall at 9 p.m. ET.

Series History

ODU extended its all-time lead over Georgia State to 20-10 with a 78-55 win over the Panthers on Saturday, Feb. 14 at Chartway Arena. KC Shaw led the Monarchs with 28 points on 13-of-18 shooting from the floor, adding seven rebounds, four assists, and one block to his totals. Caelum Swanton-Rodger also had a big game with a 17-point, 10-rebound double-double. He dished out three assists with one steal and four blocks. The game marked Senior Day for the Monarchs, and the team also retired the No. 42 jersey of the program’s all-time leading scorer, Ronnie Valentine.

After trailing by as many as 14 points in the second half on Tuesday night at Marshall, the Monarchs (10-20, 6-11 Sun Belt) cut that margin down to five, but the Herd held on for a 97-88 final at the Cam Henderson Center. Shaw and Jordan Battle paced the offense with 26 and 24 points, respectively.

Shaw continues to lead ODU and ranks fifth in the Sun Belt in scoring with 17.4 ppg. The senior from Charlotte, North Carolina is also fourth in the league with 173 made field goals. Battle follows him with 14.4 ppg and is the second-best free-throw shooter in the conference with an 85.1% clip at the line. He has made the fifth-most free throws in the SBC with 131 and is also fifth with 46 steals. Battle owns team highs in three-pointers made (67) and assists (89) and is second in rebounds with 139 (4.6 rpg). LJ Thomas is the other Monarchs averaging double figures with 11.1 ppg and enters Friday’s game with 85 assists and 31 steals. Caelum Swanton-Rodger is scoring 8.4 ppg, has pulled down a team-high 144 rebounds (5.0. rpg), and has made 41 blocks.

ODU scores the fifth-most points in the Sun Belt with 75.4 ppg and allow 77.6 ppg for a -2.2-scoring margin. The Monarchs are also fifth in the conference in three-point shooting (34.1%), three-point percentage defense (32.2%), turnovers per game (10.9), assists per game (12.9), and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.18). The team is shooting 44.0% from the field and 73.1% at the line, and Old Dominion is 252nd in the latest NET rankings.

About Georgia State

The Panthers (10-20, 7-10 Sun Belt) dropped their second game in a row with a 76-71 setback against Coastal Carolina on Tuesday night in Atlanta. A Joah Chappelle three-pointer got the hosts to within 73-71 with 1:02 left in the game, but the Chanticleers made 3-of-4 shots at the line to close things out. Malachi Brown, who scored a new career high of 26 points, looked to tie the game at 74-74 with a three-point attempt with 15 seconds left, but his shot was blocked by Coastal’s Rasheed Jones.

Jelani Hamilton is netting 17.6 ppg, Micah Tucker follows with 13.2 ppg, and Brown averages 12.2 ppg. Hamiton is the Sun Belt leader in free-throw shooting at 89.0%. He is second in the conference with 1.92 steals per game, third in steals with 48, and fourth in scoring and free throws made (145). Brown and Hamilton have knocked down 59 and 50 threes, respectively. Chappelle (7.0 ppg) leads GSU on the glass with 131 boards (5.0 rpg), Brown has a team-best 91 assists, and Chappelle and Christian Beam (3.3 ppg) have combined for 43 blocks.

GSU is scoring 70.2 ppg, but allows 74.2 ppg for a -4.0-scoring margin. The Panthers shoot 38.0% from the floor and 32.3% from long range. They lead the Sun Belt and rank sixth nationally with 79.1% shooting at the free-throw line. They’re fourth in the league in free throws made per game (16.8) and turnover margin (0.7) and are fifth in in turnovers per game (10.9). Georgia State is currently 295th in the NET rankings.
