MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – Old Dominion men’s tennis came up short against Middle Tennessee after a hard-fought 4-3 result on day two of Battle in the ‘Boro on Saturday evening.
Blue Raiders Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak began doubles play with a 6-3 win over Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan and Thomas Nelson on court one. Teammates Houston Jacques and Antoine Mayoral followed suit, downing Zech Hamrouni and Piet Steveker 6-4 on court three and claiming the doubles point for MTSU. No. 2 Felix Obermair’s and Adam Majchrzak’s match on court two against Eric Crivei and Jonasz Dziopak was suspended at 4-5.
No. 1 Horak kept momentum going for MTSU with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Majchrzak to open singles, while teammate Al-Amin downed Felix Obermair on court two (3-6, 6-3, 6-2). However, No. 3 Olivier de Sardan earned the first point for ODU after downing Dziopak on court three (6-3, 4-6, 6-0), as No. 4 Hamrouni and No. 6 Steveker tied the match with respective victories over Crivei (2-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Murray (6-1, 6-7, 7-5). With the final point coming down to the winner on court five, Duran was able to pull away from Aryan Saleh in a third set (6-7, 7-6, 6-2) and seal MTSU’s win.
Old Dominion faces off against Utah tomorrow, Feb. 22 at 9:30 a.m. for the team’s final match of the Battle in the ‘Boro tournament.
