The Sun Belt Conference announced Wednesday afternoon that a trio of Monarchs have been awarded weekly honors following the ITA Kickoff competition.

NORFOLK, Va. – The Sun Belt Conference announced Wednesday afternoon that a trio of Monarchs have been awarded weekly honors following the ITA Kickoff competition.

Piet Steveker and Zech Hamrouni have been named Sun Belt Doubles Team of the Week, while Jean-Karim Olivier de Sardan was awarded Sun Belt Singles Player of the Week. This is the first time that the players have garnered weekly honors as Monarchs.

Newcomers Steveker and Hamrouni went 2-0 in the ITA Kickoff Weekend against Purdue and North Alabama, where they came away victorious by respective 7-5 and 6-1 scores. The duo played in the No. 3 spot for the tournament.

Olivier de Sardan was leading against Purdue’s Maj Premzl before it was suspended at 5-7, 6-1, 3-2, though he downed North Alabama’s Izan Orgiles the following day, 6-2, 6-2. The sophomore played at No. 4 against the Boilermakers and No. 3 against the Lions.

This is the second consecutive week where ODU has been awarded both singles and doubles honors.
