ORLANDO, Fla. – Old Dominion University Football will play South Florida in the StaffDNA Cure Bowl at Camping World Stadium on Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. on ESPN.
“Our team is incredibly excited for this opportunity. The Cure Bowl offers an incredible location and a stellar opponent,” ODU Head Coach Ricky Rahne said. “As the son of a breast cancer survivor, this game holds special meaning to me and I’m honored to have our team chosen for this game and we look forward to representing Old Dominion.”
Old Dominion finished the regular season 9-3 overall and 6-2 in the Sun Belt Conference. The Monarchs are currently on a five-game winning streak and have outscored opponents 160-47 during the streak.
It is the third bowl game in five years under Rahne and ODU’s 9-3 mark is its best since a 10-3 record in 2016.
The Monarchs rank seventh in the country in rushing offense with a school record 2,843 yards, are ninth in sacks with 35, ninth in red zone defense, 16th in total offense with 460.8 yards per game and 20th in scoring defense at 19.3 points per game allowed.
The Cure Bowl will be the fourth bowl in ODU program history. ODU’s first was a 24-20 win in the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl over Eastern Michigan. The Monarchs have since played in the Myrtle Beach Bowl in 2021 against Tulsa and the Famous Toastery Bowl in 2023 against WKU.
“The Cure Bowl was a bowl we targeted early on as a top bowl for our 9-3 program. It will be a great experience for our student-athletes and fans alike,” ODU Athletics Director Dr. Wood Selig said. “We will be honored to represent the Sun Belt Conference in one of the premiere bowl games. We are grateful to be selected to compete in such a prestigious bowl and know Monarch fans will represent ODU extremely well.”
South Florida went 9-3 on the year and 6-2 in the American. The Bulls, like ODU, had a win over a Power 4 opponent with an 18-16 win over Florida.
