NORFOLK, Va. – Esther Ireland led Old Dominion University Sailing, finishing sixth at the College SingleHanded National Championships after the two-day event that was held at ODU on the base of the Elizabeth River.
“It was another day of light air and tight racing. All three Monarchs had solid races. I am super proud of all three of them. It was a testament to the team’s depth to have three qualified competitors,” ODU Head Coach Mitch Brindley said. “ Gianna struggled a bit with consistency but did a great job bouncing back. Arabella had some challenges on the starting line. When she came off the line clear she proved she had great speed. Esther had a solid day and an impressive regatta. As a whole the team did a fantastic job running a great championship and competing so well.”
Ireland began the day in 12th but four top 10 finishes highlighted by a third-place finish vaulted her into sixth place.
Arabella Duer finished 10th after a pair of seventh place finishes highlighted her day.
Gianna Dewey began the day in 16th but after a pair of third place finishes pushed up to place 12th for the championship.
Cornell’s Gilda Dondona won the championship.
