NORFOLK, Va. - Arabella Duer leads a trio of Old Dominion sailors after the first day of the College Sailing SingleHanded National Championships hosted by ODU on the base of the Elizabth River.

Due to low wind conditions, just two races were completed on the day.

"The breeze dropped out on us today, making for challenging conditions for all competitors," ODU Head Coach Mitch Brindley said. "Normally we would expect to get between 8-10 races on day one. It was a challenge to get two. Between the three Monarchs we had a couple of solid races. Arabella did a great job reading the wind shift on the first leg of race one. Esther had a solid second race, with a quick gain on the first shift off the starting line. All three of the Monarchs are looking forward to a much breezier forecast for tomorrow."

Duer sits in 10th place after finishing sixth in the first race of the day and 15th in day two.

Esther Ireland sits in 12th after a 16th place finish in race one and coming in sixth in the second race.

Gianna Dewey is 16th after two races, taking 11th in race one and 17th in the second race.

The championships continue tomorrow morning at 10:15.
