NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women’s rowing heads to Earlysville, Va. to compete in the Rivanna Romp on Sunday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. The races take place on the Rivanna Reservoir, and the event is hosted by the University of Virginia.
“It's exciting to have ODU traveling back and competing at the Romp this Sunday,” said ODU head coach Brian Conley. “It has been a few years since we were last there, and as we progress as a team in speed and depth, we have to be willing to challenge ourselves with strong competition.”
The Monarchs are coming off a successful five-medal outing at the Head of the Occoquan. ODU has its second and final race of the fall season on Sunday.
The Rivanna Reservoir is a 4,000-meter course. ODU will match up against the Cavaliers as well as Georgetown, Minnesota, Navy, and North Carolina. Races will begin at 11:00 a.m. and the Varsity 8+’s will kick things off. The Varsity 4+’s will then set off for their race at 12:45 p.m.
Parking is free to the public at the Thomas Temple Allan Boathouse. It is located by the west bank of the Rivanna Reservoir.
“This race will be tough, and our goals are simple,” said Conley. “We need to put ourselves out there and just see what kind of speed we can achieve when competing against some of the best crews in the country.”
