CONWAY, S.C. — Volleyball dropped a road Sun Belt Conference match at Coastal Carolina, 3-0, on Friday night.

The Monarchs fall to 3-11 overall and 0-3 in conference play with the loss.

CCU 3, ODU 0

The Chanticleers (10-4, 3-0) opened the first set with a 4-0 run to bring them up 7-1, courtesy of kills from Emily Fowler and Becca Michelle. By the halfway point, back-to-back kills from Anna Rita helped conclude a 5-0 run to give CCU a double-digit lead by a 17-6 score. ODU battled back with kills from five different players, and though Coastal Carolina would have two consecutive errors late in the set, Old Dominion was unable to come back, giving the Chants a 25-16 win following an Anzley Rinard kill.

Three straight errors from the Monarchs would give CCU an early 3-0 lead, which gave the Chants momentum to keep distance from the Monarchs. Three more errors gave CCU a 16-6 lead at the halfway point, but late in the set ODU would put up three straight points, bringing the score to 22-16. However, Coastal Carolina responded with a 3-0 run themselves, winning the second set 25-16.

Coastal Carolina came out strong in the third set, going on a 7-0 run to set an early 10-2 score. Old Dominion was able to close the gap to just 15-10, though the Chants responded quickly with a 4-0 run, courtesy of kills from Fowler along with errors from the Monarchs. ODU bounced back to close the gap once again late in the set, tying the set at 21 after a kill from Bryanna Jones and a CCU error. Kibi Huggins gave Coastal Carolina the lead once again, and an Old Dominion error added to that lead as the Chants looked to reach the set point. Another Rinard kill did just that, and an ODU error secured the win for CCU, 25-22, giving them the match.

Jones led the way for the Monarchs in kills with 13, while Hampton had a team-high 16 assists. Jones tied with Elisa Maggi in digs with 10 as well.
