The HOTO is a full 5k head race hosted by the Occoquan Boat Club. The race will being 4k upstream from the launch area.
“This is the first race of the season for us and much later than we have started in the past,” said ODU head coach Brian Conley. “We spent this extra time trying to get everyone a little more on the same page technically and it really helped our novices adapt to life as a collegiate athlete too.”
ODU will begin the day with a V8+ race starting in the 4th position out of 18 entries in Bow 153. At the same time the V8+ sets off the JV8+ will begin from Bow 170 in the 3rd position out of 13 crews in the event.
The next round of events will begin at 12:05 p.m. when the Novice 4+ A and B boats compete. Boat A is in Bow 189 and will be starting in second position and boat B will be in Bow 198 and will begin in the 11th position.
“Our goals for this weekend are to make sure that we execute the things we have been working on in practice,” said Conley. “We will be racing some familiar teams this weekend that we saw last year and at our BIG 12 Conference Championships, and so seeing how we compare to them in the fall will help guide what we do over winter and spring.”
Racing will resume at 2 p.m. with the Novice 8+. ODU starts in second position out of 13 crews in Bow 262. At 2:30 p.m. the V4+ will be split, boat A will be located in Bow 290 and start in second position, boat B sits in Bow 305 and sits in 20th out of the 22 participating crews.
ODU’s JV4+ has two entries in the Monarchs’ final race of the afternoon. Boat A begins in 2nd position out of 14 crews and will be launching from Bow 309. Boat B will be taking off from Bow 318 and will be starting the race from Bow 318
“I am excited to finally get out there to race and see the team perform,” said Conley.
