NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion men’s soccer faces James Madison in a new chapter of the TowneBank Royal Rivalry on Halloween, Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. at Sentara Park.
The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available for any fans who wish to follow along with the action.
LAST TIME OUT:
ODU secured a 1-0 win in Norfolk in the final game of the 2024 regular season against JMU last year. Timothy Ennin was the lone goalscorer on the night after he found the back of the net thanks to an assist from Micah Wayland. The Monarchs outshot the Dukes 15-11 and 6-5 in shots on target. JMU had eight corner kicks but could not find a goal past Michael Statham and ODU’s defense. The Dukes had one final corner kick in the 87th minute but could not generate a shot from the set piece and ODU secured the victory.
ABOUT ODU:
The Monarchs are coming off a gritty, 0-0 draw on Sunday against #9 Marshall. ODU enters the Royal Rivalry in eighth place with six conference points in the Sun Belt and JMU sits in last with one conference point. The eight-team Sun Belt Conference Championships begin on Nov. 9.
Lewis Rourke leads the team with six goals and three assists for 15 points. He has taken a team high in shots with 28. Jake Lane and Alex Kryazhev both rank second on ODU with 10 points. Kryazhev is the main provider on offense with six assists, he has also chipped in two goals. Lane has scored four goals and dished out two assists. Barrett Saul and senior captain Michael Eberle is knotted at seven points each. Saul has three goals, and one assists and Eberle has scored one goal and provided five assists.
Senior goalkeeper Michael Statham has been a key to the Monarchs’ defensive effort all season. He has started 14 games this season for a total of 1,260 minutes, has made 48 saves, and has a save percentage of .706. His goals-against average in conference play ranks fifth (1.43), and he’s second in save percentage (71%), total saves (48), and averages 3.43 saves per game.
ABOUT JMU:
JMU has already been mathematically eliminated from the Sun Belt Conference Championship and is looking to gain positive momentum to finish the season. The Dukes are coming off a 1-0 loss to Georgia Southern at Sentara Park on Sunday night. The Dukes have scored four goals total in conference play and have conceded 12. Redshirt junior forward Cameron Arnold is tied with sophomore Diego Ossa to lead the Dukes with two goals.
JMU has split time between keepers this season. Redshirt junior Jack Doogue has seen two matches between the posts. Sophomore Erik Jaspers has seen 10 matches in net, he has faced 135 shots and allowed 13 goals. He has made a team high of 47 saves for JMU.
