NEW ORLEANS – Old Dominion University Football players Trequan Jones and Tre’ Brown earned Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors, as announced by the SBC on Monday. Jones was named Offensive Player of the Week, while Brown was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.

Jones had five carries for 163 yards and three touchdowns to help lead ODU to a 54-6 win over North Carolina Central. On his first career FBS carry, Jones went 39 yards for a touchdown to give ODU a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. His second carry went for 14 yards on a play that ended the first half. On the first play of the third quarter, Jones set an ODU record with a 93-yard touchdown run to give the Monarchs a 23-3 lead. He later added a 14-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter for his third score of the day. Jones' 93-yard run is the second longest FBS play from scrimmage this season.

Tre Brown made a pair of big special teams plays on Saturday for the Monarchs. After NCCU was stopped on its second possession, the NCCU punter dropped the snapped and picked it up the ball but was drilled by Brown in the end zone for a safety to give ODU a 2-0 lead. Later in the game, Brown came through again to block an NCCU punt and set up an ODU touchdown. He finished the game with a TFL and a blocked punt. Brown, a wide receiver, also caught four passes for 74 yards in the game.

The Monarchs travel to Virginia Tech on Saturday, Sept. 13 for a 7 p.m. game against the Hokies.
