GREENVILLE, N.C. – Old Dominion men’s golf rounded out play at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic on Monday.
The tournament, hosted by East Carolina at Ironwood Golf & Country Club, was originally scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, but was moved up a day in order to avoid inclement weather expected from Tropical Storm Imelda.
ODU combined to shoot a 30-over par 898 to finish in 14th place in the team standings. The host Pirates came in first at 23-under 841, UCF was second with a final tally of 15-under 849, and Jacksonville State rounded out the top three at 13-under 851.
In the individual standings, Cullen Campbell was the top finisher for the Monarchs, tying for 55th with a seven-over 223. He carded a couple of 71s in the first two rounds, but had to count an 81 for his final lap around the course. Kaijun Ma and Jakub Sutor both tied for 65th at 10-over 226, Garret Cameron tied for 78th with a 14-over 230, and Joe MacPherson came in 80th at 15-over 231. ECU’s Philip Bondestad recorded an 11-under 205 to capture the individual title. JSU’s Ryley Heath was two strokes behind Bondestad to come in second at 207, and LIU’s Arjun Singh Bhatia placed third with a 208.
“Certainly disappointed with how we performed these past couple of days,” said ODU Associate Head Coach Barry Marple. “We had a couple solid rounds from a few individuals, but overall our performance was unacceptable and disappointing.”
The Monarchs will look to bounce back at Elon’s Phoenix Invitational, which will be held on Oct. 13-14 at Alamance Country Club in Burlington, North Carolina.
