NORFOLK, Va. – Old Dominion men’s soccer returns home to host its first Sun Belt Conference game of the season against #25 Georgia Southern on Friday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m.

The game will be streamed to ESPN+ and live stats will be available for all fans who wish to follow along with the action.

LAST TIME OUT:

Old Dominion last faced off against Georgia Southern on Nov. 1, 2024, where the Monarchs came away with a 3-2 road win. The game began with Eagles’ Joe O’Connor putting the lone goal on the board in the first half at the 34th minute. ODU’s Nicholas Alves tied the game 17 minutes later at the 51st minute. GS’s Matthew Dean responded quickly and scored the go-ahead goal for the Eagles at the 54th minute. ODU’s Timothy Ennin tied the game at two in the 68th minute. Micah Wayland was the hero on the night and was able to secure the win in the 84th minute for the Monarchs as ODU came away with a 3-2 win.

ABOUT OLD DOMINION:

The Monarchs are returning home after a 1-0 road win over previously undefeated UMBC on Sep. 12, snapping their four-game winless streak. Lewis Rourke scored the game winning goal at the 78th minute thanks to an assist from Marcelo Randolf. Prior to that meeting, the Monarchs fell to Bucknell on the road, 4-2. ODU tied Lehigh 2-2 at the beginning of their road trip.

Rourke and Jake Lane lead ODU in goals with three each, as Michael Eberle and Alex Kryazhev have a team-high three assists. Old Dominion is ranked third in the SBC for assists per game with two. 

Michael Statham enters Friday with a .704 save percentage and a 2-2-2 record in goal. The returning senior goalkeeper has 19 saves and eight goals allowed in his six games played. Statham has helped ODU be ranked second in the SBC in saves per game with 3.17.

ABOUT GEORGIA SOUTHERN:

The Eagles are coming off of a home stretch where they hosted Stetson, Presbyterian, and Jacksonville where they won all three games by a margin of one goal. Georgia Southern’s Ricky Louis scored three goals in the first two games.

Louis leads the Eagles in goals with four while Emil Seedorff follows suit with two. Finn Steele has a team-high two assists with four other Eagles tied with one. Georgia Southern is first in the SBC in five different categories, including win-lost-tied percentage, which is the fifth best in the nation.

Nate Martinez is in goal for the Eagles, allowing just two goals with 17 saves in the year. Martinez helped GS be sixth in the nation in shutouts with four, and he’s first in the SBC in save percentage with .895.
