NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion field hockey kicks off its 2025 season at home against VCU on Friday, Aug. 29 at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.
The game will begin at 5 p.m. with live stats available for fans.
The Monarchs and the Rams met last year on Sep. 29 in Richmond where ODU fell 2-1 in double overtime. Returning ODU sophomore Serena Langendoen had the game-tying goal for the Monarchs in the third quarter.
ABOUT ODU:
Old Dominion returns 16 players with six starters and added eight new members, including six freshmen. Andrew Griffiths is going into his 13th season as head coach for the Monarchs, where he holds a 131-86 all-time record at Old Dominion. During the offseason, Griffiths added two new assistant coaches, including ODU Sports Hall of Famer Mimi Smith and Jason Klinkradt, who is coming to the 757 from Delaware.
Old Dominion was picked to finish third in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll after falling to Temple in the BIG EAST conference tournament semifinal last year. Goalkeeper Suus Broers was named BIG EAST Preseason Goalkeeper of the year while Langendoen was named BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Both were also named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team.
ABOUT VCU:
VCU ended their 2025 season with a 11-7 record after falling to UMass 4-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference Semifinals. The Rams returned 16 players and added on a new assistant coach, Stacey Bean, who ended her collegiate field hockey career at ODU.
The Rams leading scorer last season was Ella Fehr with nine goals followed by Morena Macera with eight. The team’s leader in assists was also Macera with Ava Radel and Ana Afonso Osorio following suit, tied for five assists. In goal for the Rams last season was Emma Clements with 13 games started, she made 52 saves last season.
