Los Angeles - The Old Dominion women’s basketball team has been spending time in the City of Angels, gathering insight from professional athletes, and also bonding with each other in anticipation of the 2025-26 season.
ODU head coach DeLisha Milton-Jones was introduced to the crowd at the LA Sparks vs. Seattle Storm game on Sunday which saw the ODU women’s basketball team take the court during a media timeout to throw shirts in the stands. Milton-Jones has been enjoying returning back to the city where she spent 11 years of her professional career which included back-to-back WNBA championships in 2001 and 2002. Fans at Crypto.comArena were quick to thank our head coach for the time she spent in the city and all the success she was a part of, with many waiting outside the arena for the chance to meet with her.
The Monarchs were able to soak in an LA Sparks team practice the following day. At the end of their practice, the team met with Cameron Brink, Sarah Ashlee Barker, Emma Cannon, Sania Feagin, and Alissa Pilli. ODU women’s basketball players had a Q&A with the Sparks that lasted an hour and several Monarchs asked invaluable questions to the WNBA professional players. After the Q&A was concluded, ODU players were able to get their pictures taken with the team.
Old Dominion returned back to the hotel and had a team meeting to go over the valuable information they had just received from these professional athletes. Afterwards, the team had dinner at Benihana in Encino, Ca.
The Monarchs will be exploring Santa Monica Pier today and will be in attendance for tonight’s Sparks game against the New York Liberty’s dynamic duo of Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu. The game tips off at 10 p.m. ET.
