WELLESLEY, Mass. – Old Dominion men’s golfer Philip Minnehan punched his ticket to the 2025 U.S. Amateur on Monday.

Playing in the final round of qualifying, the recent graduate from Rochester, New York found himself in a three-way tie after a lap around the par-70, 6,868-yard course at Wellesley Country Club.

He finished with an even score of 70 for the round. After being two-over par on the front nine with a pair of bogeys on holes seven and eight, Minnehan converted a couple of birdie putts on holes 14 and 17 to get back to even.

With just two qualifying spots left for grabs, Minnehan made birdie on the first playoff hole to lock himself in for the 125th U.S. Amateur, which will be held August 11-17 at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

A total of 312 players will play 18 holes of stroke play on August 11 and 12, with one round at the club’s Lake Course and one at the Ocean Course. With the field cut the low 64 scores, the Amateur will then continue with six rounds of match play beginning on August 13, and the championship concluding with a 36-hole championship match on August 17.

The winner and runner-up at the U.S. Amateur will be exempt for the 2026 U.S. Open Championship at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, New York.
