NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women's volleyball head coach Fred Chao announced the team's 2025 schedule on Tuesday.
The Monarchs will host two tournaments and also play in two. Non-conference play will feature matches against teams representing the A10, ACC, America East, Big 10, Big 12, Big East, CAA, and the MAAC. Additionally, the non-conference slate will see ODU take the court against two teams that made it to the 2024 NCAA Volleyball Championship in Fairfield and NC State.
“The 2025 non-conference schedule will be a tough test for our squad, and we are looking forward to the challenge," said Chao. "There will be an even mix of teams we have previously played and teams that will be new to us. With our own mix of returners and new players, we will work on developing our competitive identity that will help us in our conference schedule.”
Following an exhibition match at home against East Carolina on August 20, the Monarchs will open their 2025 campaign by hosting the Quest for the Crown on August 29-30. The two-day tournament will see ODU playing Fairfield and West Virginia that Friday and wrapping up the tournament on Saturday against Towson.
Old Dominion will then make the drive up to Baltimore, Maryland on September 5-6 to play in a tournament at UMBC. That Friday will include matches with William & Mary and Maryland, and the Monarchs will then take on the host Retrievers that Saturday.
ODU will be back on its home court the following weekend, September 12-14, to host the Old Dominion Invitational. ODU will square off against Delaware in the lone match on Friday and then face Villanova in the second match on Saturday.
The Monarchs wrap up non-conference play with the VCU Invite, which will include a home match versus the Rams on September 19, followed by a neutral-site match with NC State on September 21 at VCU.
Sun Belt Conference play will feature two matches each weekend as the Monarchs will play all six of their East Division rivals. ODU’s conference schedule also includes matches against three teams that played in the 2024 National Invitational Volleyball Championship in App State, Arkansas State, and Georgia Southern.
In league play, ODU will host Georgia Southern (September 25-26), Georgia State (October 17-18), Southern Miss (October 23-24), and James Madison (November 7-8). The Monarchs will travel to Coastal Carolina (October 3-4), App State (October 10-11), Marshall (October 31-November 1), and Arkansas State (November 14-15).
The 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championship will be held at the Foley Events Center in Foley, Alabama on November 19-23. Seeding for the tournament will be determined by winning percentage against divisional foes only, with the top two seeds from each division earning automatic byes to the quarterfinal round. The winner of the tournament will earn the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
