Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion men’s basketball has announced the return of the series against the Richmond Spiders this upcoming season.
The Monarchs will travel to Richmond on December 6, 2025 and will host the Spiders during the 2025-26 season at the Chartway Arena.
“We are so excited to renew a series with the University of Richmond.” said ODU Head Coach Mike Jones. “There have been some amazing memories created over the years by both of our programs, being able to compete with another Commonwealth of Virginia University is something that we will look to do as much as we can - a small way to celebrate the great basketball in our state and some traditional rivalries.”
The last time the two programs matched up was back on December 19, 2021 in Richmond, ODU fell short 67-61. The first time they played each other was back in 1978 in an 82-81 thriller won by the Spiders.
When both sides meet in 2025 it will be the 62nd time, Old Dominion leads in the all-time series 33-28 and have a 16-8 record in games played in Norfolk. In the last 10 meetings Old Dominion trails 6-4.
This past season the Spiders finished with an overall record of 10-22 and lost to Davidson 69-65 in the first round of the A-10 Conference Tournament.
Old Dominion finished last season with an overall record of 15-20 and won three games in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament to progress to the quarterfinals before falling to eventual champion Troy, 75-59.
