Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion women’s rowing finished competing against Temple on Saturday afternoon on the Lafayette River for Senior Day.

ODU’s 1V8+ boat raced against Temple’s two 1V8+ boats to begin the day, both boats for the Owls were too quick off the line and ODU could not gain the advantage.

“ODU had a good day of racing. Our top eights raced against two strong Temple eights that had found some late season speed, they were both quick off the line and we struggled to move back into them,” said ODU Head Coach Brian Conley.

ODU rowing bounced back in the 1V4+ race, leading from start to finish to beat the Owls to the finish line. ODU’s 2V4+ and 3V4+ combined for the race against Temple’s 2V4+ in what was the closest race of the day but it finished in favor of the Monarchs.

“Both of these boats showed a lot of grit as the conditions for their race had also deteriorated with major chop forming, the 2V4 pushed away the whole second half of the race, the 3V4 in the last 250m poured on the power and were able to gain open water on Temple to finish out the day for the Monarchs on a high note.” added Conley.

Old Dominion rowing will have a month away from competition and will have intra-squad races to gear up for the BIG 12 Championship in Sarasota, Florida on May 18.
