POINT CLEAR, Ala. – Lucia Gonzalez, Mariana Arronte, and Puneet Bajwa each carded a two-over par 74 to lead Old Dominion women’s golf in Monday’s opening round of the 2025 Sun Belt Conference Championship.
The tournament is being played at Lakewood Golf Club’s Dogwood course.
The trio is tied for 19th place after the first of three rounds of stroke play. Gonzalez started off her day with birdies on two of the first three holes and added one more on the par-4 14th hole. Arronte also birdied the first hole and had two more on the back nine, one on the par-4 11th hole and another on the par-5 16th hole. Bajwa finished with four birdies: she shot fours on the par-5 first, fifth and 16th holes and hit a three on the par-4 18th hole.
Alina Shchepteva turned in a 10-over 82 and is currently 63rd, while Barbara Car is two strokes back of her and 64th with a score of 84.
Through 18 holes, the Monarch combined for a 16-over par 304 and find themselves 11th in the team standings and three strokes back of James Madison. Georgia Southern leads the 13-team field with a one-under 287, South Alabama sits in second place at two-over 290, and Coastal Carolina is third with a three-over 291.
GS’s LoraLie Cowart is the overall leader after recording a four-under par 68. USM’s Momoka Ando follows her with a two-under 70. There is a five-way tie for third place ay one-under 71.
“Conference championship week is always exciting. We needed one more good score today to be in the mix for match play. Fortunately there is a lot of golf left to be played and we believe in our team,” said ODU Head Coach Mallory Kane.
ODU will be paired with JMU for Tuesday’s second round. The Monarchs will tee off from the 10th hole between 9:45-10:21 a.m. ET.
