NORFOLK, Va. - Old Dominion women’s rowing competes in the Sunshine Invitational this weekend in the Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Florida on March 28-29.
The race will be livestreamed (click here). ODU will be racing in the 1V8+, 2V8+, 1V4+, and the 2V4+. The 1V8+, 2V8+, and 1V4+ will race in a time trial setting to seed heat events for later races.
“We are excited to travel and compete against some of our Big 12 conference competition this weekend. This will be the first time we see any conference teams this year. It will be a good gauge of where we are in the league and what we have to work on to achieve our end of season goals.” said ODU Head Coach Brian Conley.
ODU will compete against Boston College, Brown, Central Florida, Dartmouth, Florida Tech, Harvard, High Point, Jacksonville, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan State, Northeastern, Nova Southeastern, Rollins, USF, Alabama, Central Florida, Florida, Iowa, Louisville, UMass, Miami, North Carolina, Tampa, Tulsa, Washington, West Virginia, and Yale.
The time trial races will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday. Following its conclusion each team will compete in three heat races. The 2V4+ will begin competing at 2:50 p.m. and will have the final heat setting off at 3:10 p.m. The 1V4+ will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the last heat will start at 4:50 p.m. The 2V8+ will set off at 5:00 p.m. and wrap up with its final race at 5:20 p.m. Lastly, the 1V8+ hits the water at 5:50 p.m. and concludes with the final race of the day at 6:20 p.m.
On Saturday ODU rowing will compete in either the Petite Final or the Grand Final. The 2V4+ Petite Final will set off at 8 a.m. and the Grand Final at 8:08 a.m. For the remaining boats there will be an additional race called the Third Level Final. The Monarchs 1V4+ will race in either the Third Level, Petite, or Grand Final race beginning at 9:40 a.m. and concluding at 10:10 a.m. The 2V8+ Finals will begin at 10:10 a.m. and wrap up at 10:30 a.m. Lastly the 1V8+ Finals will set off at 11 a.m. and conclude at 11:30.
ODU will gear up to compete in the George Washington Invitational Regatta being held on April 11-12 in the Potomac River.
