NEW ORLEANS- Old Dominion men’s basketball’s redshirt senior guard Sean Durugordon was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
ODU went 2-0 in the Sun Belt last week, defeating Louisiana 71-60, and South Alabama 71-63.
A native of Harlem, New York, Durugordon had a pair of 20 point games and led ODU in scoring in both wins. He scored 20 points and pulled down seven rebounds in the win over Louisiana, also going 8-for-8 from the foul line. Durugordon followed the performance up with 27 points, a career-high 18 rebounds and two blocks against South Alabama. Eight of his 18 rebounds were offensive boards. Durugordon ranks 11th in the country with 3.76 offensive rebounds per game.
This is Durugordon’s first Sun Belt weekly honor this season. He leads ODU in rebounding (7.7 rpg) and is the Monarchs’ second leading scorer (14.5 ppg) on 48% shooting from the field and 83% from the free throw line.
ODU returns home this week to host App State on Thursday, Jan. 16 and Georgia Southern on Saturday, Jan. 18.
