NEW ORLEANS- Old Dominion men’s basketball’s sophomore guard Robert Davis Jr. was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.

ODU started Sun Belt Conference games this past weekend, defeating ULM 80-75 in overtime, and starting the campaign with a 1-0 record.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, Davis led the Moanrchs in their Sun Belt Conference opening win over ULM with a career high 32 points. He scored 17 in the second half and hit seven threes on an efficient 50% from beyond the arc (7-14). The transfer from UMass added a career high nine free throw makes in 12 attempts at the stripe along with two steals in a total of 42 minutes played.

This achievement marks Davis’ first career weekly honor. He is the first Monarch to earn this award since Mehki Long was voted Player of the Week on January 31, 2023. Davis Jr. leads ODU in scoring (14.5 ppg) and is shooting a near 40% from three (.392) this season.

The Monarchs will be back at Chartway Arena on Saturday, December 28, when they host Virginia Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
