Norfolk, Va. - Old Dominion University men’s tennis competed in the Dynamic Duals Tournament hosted by Virginia Tech. With the duo of Thomas Nelson and JK Olivier De Sardan finishing in third and the pairing of Adam Majchrzak and Aryan Saleh finishing in fifth.
“We played a lot of matches this weekend, great quality matches, and I’m really proud of the guys cause they showed a lot of toughness and always that desire to compete which is a strong core of our team.” said ODU Head Coach Dominik Mueller.
Saleh dropped only 13 games in total, going 4-0 in singles. Nelson and Majchrzak both went 2-2 in singles. Sardan matched Saleh's efforts by going 4-0 in singles in the tournament.
In doubles, Sardan and Nelson finished 3-1. Saleh and Majchrzak went 2-2. In the tournament, Old Dominion beat players from ETSU, Purdue, Radford, and Virginia Tech.
In round one, the duo of Saleh and Majchrzak dispatched Radford’s Tom Saporta and Manfredi Vergine (8-7). In singles, Saleh took care of business against Saporta in straight sets (6-0, 2-0 - Retired) before Majchrzak took down Vergine in similar fashion (6-2, 6-2).
The duo of De Sardan and Nelson handled ETSU’s Pedro Cressoni and Peter Kalocsai by a score of 8-5. This preceded a singles’ sweep where De Sardan (6-2, 6-1) and Nelson (6-4, 6-2) came out on top.
In round two, Saleh defeated VT’s Ilyas Fahim in straight sets (6-2, 6-2). The duo of De Sardan and Nelson took care of Purdue’s Daniel Labrador and Mujtaba Ali Khan 8-5. De Sardan followed up the result with a victory against Labrador (6-4, 7-6).
In round three, De Sardan defeated VT’s Alberto Orso in singles (7-6, 3-6, 10-3). Saleh dispatched Purdue’s Krivokapic in straight sets (6-3, 6-3). Majchrzak handled Purdue’s Maj Premzl in three sets (7-6, 1-6, 10-8).
For the fourth and final round of the tournament the duo De Sardan and Nelson defeated the VT’s duo of Damian Sancilio and Patrik Jurina (8-4) before sweeping in singles. With De Sardan winning 5-4 before retiring Jurina, Nelson took care of Sancilio in straight sets (6-3, 6-4). The duo of Saleh and Majchrzak found victory against ETSU’s Juan Andres Listo and Carlos Gonzalez (8-5). The duo split results in singles with Saleh prevailing against Gonzlaez (6-2, 6-1) and Majchrzak falling to Listo (2-6, 6-3 - retired)
