Norfolk, Va. - The Old Dominion rowing team will continue its fall season on Saturday, November 2 when the team will be in Fairfax, Va. to compete at the Head of the Occoquan.
“We are going to get a lot of racing in this coming weekend against some strong competition. The fall is always great to be able to learn and build on mental focus and toughness. The toughness is racing a long 4500m race course at near maximum ability and sustaining the speed consistently over the total time on the course,” said ODU Head Coach Brian Conley.
The race will be held by the Occoquan Boat Club on the Occoquan Reservoir at Sandy Run Regional Park. ODU will compete in six events. The first race featuring Old Dominion will commence at 11:45 a.m. and the team’s final race of the day will start at 2:30 p.m.
“There is never a moment you can take a stroke off as it would allow your opponents to catch up or walk on you. And even tougher is, you don’t really know if you are winning or losing until after you come off the water, so you have to really trust the process and your teammates to make sure every stroke counts,” added Conley.
Schedule of Events:
11:45am – Women’s Varsity 8+ (ODU “A” Entry)
11:45am – Women’s JV8+ (ODU “A” & “B” Entries)
12:05pm – Women’s Novice 4+ (ODU “A” Entry)
2:00pm – Women’s Novice 8+ (ODU “A” Entry)
2:30pm – Women’s Varsity 4+ (ODU “A” & “B” Entries)
2:30pm – Women’s JV4+ (ODU “A” & “B” Entries)
“We have had a good season so far this year and this will be the first time the whole team is racing against some tough competition this fall.” said Brian Conley.
